Chaucer Insurance, syndicate 587, started business as a motor insurer in 1965, previously known as Ibex Insurance. By September 2000 the syndicate's development led to the rebranding and formation of Chaucer insurance, which included a move to prestigious new offices in Whitstable, Kent.

Chaucer Insurance is the UK motor division of Chaucer Holdings Plc, a prominent publicity quoted company trading within the Lloyds market. Focused mainly on the UK private car market, Chaucer Insurance includes non-standard motor, motorcycle, light commercial and individually designed personal lines schemes within its product range.
